Il Salar de Uyuni deve essere uno dei posti piu magici della Bolivia e ormai e' diventato una vera attrazione turistica.

Per poter visitare questo enorme deserto di sale si possono prenotare gite con diversi tour operator che offrono dei viaggi organizzati dalla citta di Uyuni.

Anch'io mi sono iscritta ad un tale viaggio quando stavo in Bolivia ed insieme a due ragazze che avevo conosciuto nell'ostello siamo partite per il grande Salar de Uyuni.

Gia di giorno fa abbastanza freddo nell'altopiano ma la notte era una cosa assurda ed andavamo a letto con i guanti e le sciarpe di lana strette al collo! Il gruppo del tour era fortissimo e nonostante il freddo ci siamo divertiti tantissimo.

L'albergo di sale, o Hotel de Sal, si chiama l'hotel dove abbiamo alloggiato ed era un'esperienza indimenticabile! Gia all'entrata c'erano delle piccole statuine di sale a forma di lama, l'animale che simbolizza la Bolivia. Poi per la colazione e la cena c'era una lunga tavola dove tutti mangiavamo sempre insieme.

Per chi e' interessato ad un'alloggio all'Hotel de Sal di Uyuni o per chi vuole piu informazioni su questo viaggio puo guardare la galleria foto qui sotto e vedrai che su una foto dell'albergo si legge pure l'indirizzo ed il numero di telefono.

Poi il periodo in cui abbiamo fatto il tour, verso novembre, era perfetto visto che e' proprio questo il mese in cui i fenicotteri si recano alla bellissima Laguna Colorida rendendo il panorama ancora piu magico.

Un altro sito che vale molto la pena e che visterete senza dubbio e' L'isla del Pescado, un isolotto all'interno del salar decorato con tanti tipi di cactus, rovine Inca ed una vista meravigliosa.

L’isola che non c’è esiste. Appare all’orizzonte, nelle acque del lago Titicaca, al confine tra la Bolivia e Perù e poi scompare. Reale, l’isola è reale, si può visitare, conoscerne gli abitanti, ma il giorno dopo potrebbe non essere più lì. È il “prodigio” dell’arcipelago galleggiante, costruito dalle popolazioni Uros con fascine di totora (un tipo di canna che cresce nella zona) per proteggersi dai nemici, tra cui i bellicosi Incas, nell’epoca precolombiana. In caso di pericolo, gli abitanti possono sollevare la pesante ancora che assicura l’isola al fondo del lago e spostarsi con dei lunghi remi in un posto più sicuro. Sono circa 20 le isole galleggianti e si trovano cinque chilometri a Ovest del vivace porto peruviano di Puno. Da qui molte agenzie di viaggio organizzano visite all’arcipelago, tanto che il turismo è diventato la principale fonte di reddito degli Uros e ci sono casi di isole, di fatto disabitate, dove gli antichi abitanti si recano dalla mattina alla sera per accogliere i visitatori.

L’isola che non c’è. Le isole principali sono Tupiri, Santa Maria, Tribuna, Toranipata, Chumi, Paraíso, Kapi, Titino, Tinajero e Negrone che sono abitate da una decina di famiglie e mantengono la tradizione della tessitura, della pesca artigianale (soprattutto del carachi e del persico) e della caccia di uccelli selvatici. Più di 60 specie di volatili sorvolano infatti il lago Titicaca, che il più grande lago navigabile al mondo (8.330 chilometri quadrati a un’altitudine di 3.812 metri sopra il livello del mare) e ospita una riserva naturale fin dal 1978. Tra le specie più diffuse ci sono i fenicotteri (chiamati parihuanas), le oche andine, i keles, i chullumpis e i lequeleques. Il periodo migliore per visitare il lago è febbraio, quando la temperatura (normalmente fredda e secca, compresa tra 1 e 15 gradi centigradi) è relativamente mite e la città di Puno è animata dalla Festa della Vergine della Candelora. Le celebrazioni sono molto sentite dagli abitanti della zona, discendenti del popolo Aymara, e ricche di musica e balli. Basta pensare che Puno è chiamata la “Capitale del folklore peruviano” e sono più di 300 le danze tradizionali della regione che vanno in scena per l’occassione.

Machu Picchu è una splendida città archeologica avvolta nel mistero della Valle di Urumamba, nel Perù. La sua storia si perde nel tempo con la cultura inca, e solo all’inizio del secolo scorso, ed esclusivamente per caso, il sito venne ritrovato da un signore locale. Perla preziosa e misteriosa per tutti gli appassionati dell’ archeologia antica, la città è situata a 2430 metri sul livello del mare, in un luogo ancora oggi accessibile solo tramite due sentieri che richiedono una certa dose di pazienza e di forma fisica per intraprenderli: infatti il viaggio può risultare molto faticoso a chi non è allenato alle scarpinate e, anche andandoci fino ad un certo punto coi mezzi, si tratta sempre poi di seguire un percorso di montagna.

Esistono due soluzioni per raggiungere Machu Picchu:

1 . Seguire gli antichi sentieri incaici che conducono alla città, quindi vuol dire 4 giorni di cammino e 3 notti da dormire all’ aperto.

2 . Seguire la strada di Hiram Bingham, che risale il pendio di Machu Picchu dalla stazione ferroviaria di Puente Ruinas ubicata nel fondo della gola della montagna.

Entrambe le alternative prevedono un pagamento a mo’ di pedaggio per visitare il sito.

Per arrivare a Machu Picchu percorrendo gli antichi sentieri realizzati dagli Inca, è necessario prendere il treno che arriva fino al km 82 della linea ferroviaria Cusco – Aguas Calientes e da lì proseguire con una guida o, se si è già esperti della zona, da soli.

Nel secondo caso si può arrivare fino ad un certo punto con i mezzi, soluzione che richiede meno impegno fisico, ma non lo esclude de tutto, vuoi per i mezzi di trasporti non propriamente simili ai nostri, vuoi per la traversata da compiere che resta comunque sfiancante. Per raggiungere Aguas Calientes si può:

a) arrivare in elicottero ( costoso ma in 30 minuti si copre la tratta Cusco – Aguas Calientes )

b) prendere il treno ( 3 ore circa da Cusco )

c) prendere un autobus da Cusco ad Ollantaytambo ( via Urumamba ) e da qui raggiungere il famoso km 82 con un altro mezzo. Sul posto si può poi prendere la strada ferrata che ragguaglia i 32 km fino ad Aguas Caliente ( decisamente da sconsigliare perchè davvero troppo stancante)

Ad ogni modo la strada da percorrere più interessante ed emozionante resta sempre quella dei Sentieri Inca, bellissima e che ti immerge nella natura e nel tempo che fu inglobandoti completamente con il suo mistero. Avrete la possibilità di dormire sotto le stelle e di osservare panorami che vi toglieranno il fiato, sospesi nell’ alto di un monte altissimo che domina a 360 gradi l’intera valle: vi ripagherà di tutti i sacrifici compiuti per giungere fin lì.

Attenzione! Il viaggio non è dei più economici, solo il volo può toccare tranquillamente i 1500 euro a persona, anche se controbilanciato dai prezzi locali peruviani decisamente più bassi.

Lake Titicaca (The Highest Lake of the World)

Located between Bolivia and Peru, Lake Titicaca is one of the most fascinating lakes in the world. It is situated at a very high altitude, at over 3800 meters above sea level, and a tour at Titicaca is definitely an unforgettable experience for any visitor. While there are no roads on the island, making it not tourism friendly, the over 180 ruins from the Incan period are making it worth to visit.

Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat, located in Bolivia. Bolivia is right up there with Peru in the great experiences department as far as we are concerned, but it had one more up it's sleeve: the huge salt flats of Uyuni.

Photographers flock here to capture the unique landscape. It is often visited as part of a 3 or 4 day tour of South West Bolivia.

Salar de Uyuni comprises over 12,000 sq km in the Potosi region. The salt is over 10 meters thick in the center. In the dry season, the salt planes are a completely flat expanse of dry salt, but in the wet season, it is covered with a thin sheet of water that is still drivable.

The standard tour heads south toward the southwest corner of Bolivia, by many fluorescent-colored lakes that are created from a collection of different minerals from runoff from the surrounding mountains.

A Tour to the Inca Trail

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the most popular trekking route and possibly one of the most spectacular walks in the Americas.

The Trail is part of an Inca roads system of more than 30,000 kilometers that integrated the vast empire of Tahuantinsuyo from southern Colombia to central Chile passing through the cities of Quito, Ecuador; Cajamarca, Huanuco, Jauja, Huamanga, and Cusco in Peru; La Paz and Cochabamba in Bolivia; Salta and Tucuman in Argentina. There roads ran mainly along the coast and mountain regions and in some cases they also reached the tropical mountains in the Amazon forest as is he case with the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
When the Spanish conquered this empire, they said that the Incas had the best organised society of the world (16th century). It is known that it took the runners, who were called the chasquis, 3 days to bring a message from Lima to Cusco, while the Spaniards with their horses needed at least two weeks. Fish from the ocean arrived in less than 3 hours in the city of Cusco that is situated in the middle of the Andes.

Each year, some 25,000 hikers from all over the world walk the 43 km stone-paved trail, built by the Incas to get to the impregnable citadel of Machu Picchu, deep in the Cuzco cloud forest.
Over 250 species of orchid have been counted in the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary, as well as numerous birds such as hummingbirds, waterfowl and the majestic Andean Condor. The star of the Sanctuary is the spectacled bear - a shy, herbivorous animal that is extremely rare and close to extinction.
The trail is usually covered in 4 days arriving at the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu for sunrise on the fourth day. The trek is rated moderate and any reasonably fit person should be able to cover the route. It is fairly challenging nevertheless, and altitudes of 4200m are reached, so ensuring that you are well acclimatized is important. If arriving from sea level, plan to spend at least 2 full days in Cusco prior to commencing the trek. This should allow plenty of time for acclimatization and give you sufficient opportunity to visit the city of Cusco and nearby Inca ruins at Sacsayhuaman, Q'enko, Pucapucara and Tambomachay, as well as spending a day or two exploring the Sacred Valley of the Incas visiting the tradition market town of Pisac and the fascinating Inca fortress at Ollantaytambo.
The Inca Trail can be hiked year round although the months of April till October are probably more comfortable since the weather is drier. June, July and August are in the high season when the trail can become fully booked so be sure to make a reservation in advance. The 4 day Inca Trail is closed each year during the month of February to allow conservation work to take place. The months of January and March are in the wet season so hiking the trail can be a little miserable unless you have a good rain jacket and waterproof tent.
It is best to plan your Machu Picchu Tour ahead due to the site's popularity, and the fact that only a limited number of visitors are allowed each year.
